Parks and Recreation
The Bridgeport Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for beautifying, operating and maintaining Park & Recreation assets (parks, trails, community recreation areas and the outdoor Bridgeport Pool) as well as implementing year-round recreation programs for all ages and park maintenance.
The City of Bridgeport provides anything and everything necessary to keep your family recreating - walking trails for the whole family; basketball and tennis courts with lights for late-night play; the Bridge Sports Complex featuring state-of-the-art facilities and league-style play; our community outdoor swimming pool with family-friendly membership fees and child Sprayground; two beautiful lakes for fishing or boating; and so much more.
Bring the whole family to one of our special summer events and enjoy movies under the stars at the park or while blissfully floating in the pool. Bring the kids to a sports camp to improve. The Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Department offers year round Recreation Programs and Special Events at the Benedum Civic Center.
|
Some of the classes offered to the public include Karate, Little Explorers (child’s science class), exercise classes (varies) and Paint Classes. Many other classes are offered at different times so be sure to check TheBridgeWV.gov.

Some of the Special Events offered by the Department include the annual pre-school Easter Egg Hunt, Hay Bales Fall Festival, and the Christmas Parade. Sporting Events held annually include Tennis Lessons and Clinics.

Summer Pool Programs (Outdoor Pool)
|
The Bridgeport Pool, located adjacent to the Civic Center, is a public pool which offers swimming and pool programs to area residents. Season passes are available to both Bridgeport residents and non-residents. Along with swimming, the Bridgeport Pool offers rentals for private pool parties, and Aqua Aerobics. The Parks and Recreation Department also sponsors the Bridgeport "Wildcatters" Swim Team at the Bridgeport Pool.

1. All programs registration is taken on a FIRST PAID, FIRST SERVED BASIS ONLY. We reserve the right to cancel any class due to insufficient registration.
2. Participants must register and pay for ALL classes in a session on or before the first day of the desired class
3. Pro-rating is permissible for "NEW" students who sign up after a class session is already started and/or at the discretion of the instructor or Bridgeport Parks & Recreation
4. Make checks payable to CITY OF BRIDGEPORT.
5. No refunds will be given without the approval from the Director due to extenuating circumstances.
A $5 administrative fee will be assessed to all refunds.

Located in Bridgeport, WV, The Bridge is the newest destination for all things sports, recreation, and wellness. Our indoor facility, the Citynet Center, contains a turf field, six hardwood courts (Wesbanco Fieldhouse), a competition pool and a warmup pool (UHC Aquatics Center), fitness center, elevated running track, climbing area, meeting & event spaces, and concessions stand. Bridgeport's first Bark Park is located between Hinkle and Deegan Lakes off of Rt. 58 or Brushy Fork Road.
General Information
- Dogs are allowed to run off-leash
- There are no public restrooms available
- Water Fountains are planned in the future
- Trash cans are available
- Doggie bags for waste are available at two locations within the park

Rental Information
Benedum Civic Center and Shelter Rentals
The Benedum Civic Center and the shelters located in City Park, Compton Park, and Deegan and Hinkle Lakes Park can be rented by individuals for birthday parties, family reunions, meetings or for most other needs. Call the Parks and Recreation office at 842-8240 for more information.

Book your family reunion, school picnic or special outing with us. Starting January 10th, of each year, Bridgeport Parks and Recreation will be taking reservations for shelters. Registration for all pool related activities including passes, swim lessons, and pool rentals begin on April 16th, 2024. Don't wait till the last minute, reservations fill-up fast.
Recreation Complex
The Grand Opening and Dedication of the Bridgeport Recreation Complex took place on April 15, 2012 and has been a great addition to the City.
Located at Charles Pointe, Bridgeport's new premier Recreation Complex will include four baseball fields - two regulation size, appropriate for Pony League through high school and adult - and two Little League size, appropriate for softball and all youth leagues.
A full-scale press box, concession and restroom center will be located in the fourplex.
A multipurpose field is available for additional sports, such as soccer, lacrosse and flag football.
The complex also includes a one-mile, 12-foot wide, paved walking trail, a basketball court and two small playgrounds - one in the North Bay area and the other in the vicinity of the ball fields.
*Metal Cleats are prohibited on portable mound.
Operating Procedures
- Recreation, park, and conservation areas shall be open to the public from sunrise to sunset, unless otherwise posted. All sports courts close at midnight, and timers quit in respect of residents.
- All vacant facilities and areas in recreation and park sites may be used (without a permit) only for the purposes designated. Special activities are allowed by permits issued by the Parks & Recreation Department for specific dates and times at a particular facility. The general public should then vacate a facility in lieu of a permit. Examples of this include reserved sport court time for league and tournament activities, as well as shelter rentals.
- The following acts are against the law and will not be tolerated. Littering; Endangering the safety of others; Disturbing the peace at a public facility or adjacent private property.
- No alcohol is permitted on public property in the City of Bridgeport, as it is unlawful for any person to have in his or her possession, custody, or control, any alcoholic beverage.
- Parking is permitted in designated areas only.
- Persons witnessing illegal acts or evidence of inappropriate activity are urged to contact the Bridgeport Police Department at 842-8260 or 911 in emergency situations
